deadpool2e Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Decided to do a service myself, what do you think I should get. I need a fuel filterOil filterPollen filter??? (do I need this)Oil (which type) I also want to put a new cam belt on (any suggestions about other bits needed or to do at same time) TDI 115 Ghia Thanks as always :) Quote
buford_t_justice Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Your brave attempting a cambelt change on your own! :) What you will need for the rest depends on what you have had done to it so far and your mileage. If you don't know the history of it then I'd definately change the oil, oil filter, air filter and pollen filter. As for the fuel filter well that's a personal choice. I realise that other people on this forum would change this at the normal intervals but personally I don't bother. If it ain't broke don't fix it! I'm convinced this fuel filter renewal is just some big con by the manufacturers to increase the servicing costs (and looks a fiddly job too!). I've driven my last 4 cars covering 100,000 miles each and never changed a fuel filter once and I don't see anything changing. The oil you will need is Ford Formula SD. Quote
tim-spam Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Regarding fuel filters, engines designed to meet the Stage III (which includes the 115 PD engines) and latest Stage IV emission standards require much better fuel filtration than earlier engines. This means that the filters are finer, and will therefore remove more contaminants from the fuel. In addition, it is important to drain the water from the bottom of the filter. However, we in the UK are blessed with comparatively clean diesel fuel. For changing the cam belt, it will be much easier with the correct alignment / locking tools, and don't forget to renew the tensioner.Tim Quote
_dg Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Don't forget to scuff the door threshold plastic with your dirty boots, and scratch a bumper corner or dent the door edge. :) Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Or to do a really professional job, bend the sill and overfill the oil :) and dont forget to charge yourself Quote
deadpool2e Posted May 9, 2005 Author Report Posted May 9, 2005 Your brave attempting a cambelt change on your own! :) i take it it is hard to do then?? i have a tis disk, does anyone know how i can search for cam belt replacement and where to find the pollen filter?? :) Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 It is not hard, you just need time and to follow the instructions. To do the PD engine you also need some special tools. On the TIS, it is FORD GALAXY 2000.75, ENGINE 1.9 DIESEL, In Vehicle Repair, TIMING BELT Quote
deadpool2e Posted May 10, 2005 Author Report Posted May 10, 2005 what kind of tools, and let me guess you can only get those special tools from ford? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 No, you can get them from elsewhere, but they are not cheap. More details HERE Quote
delboyt Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 looking at the price for the tools perhaps it would be better to get itdone in a garage then atleast you got some sort of warranty.the pollen filter is under the bulk head on the passengers sideremove the 3 bolts that hold's the bulk head plate on & then you canremove & re-fit a new oneit's a bit fiddly but cheaper than a garage to diy.best leave the belt to the garage i recon best of luck if you do try for yourselfyour a braver man than me as i just looked in a haynes manual &it look's bloody hard Quote
